About Maggie
I’ve always loved to create, but never considered myself an artist. A few years ago I became fascinated with mosaics. I started working with broken plate mosaics, or pique assiette, as it’s called officially (it means to scavange, basically). I love scouring the thrift shops for just the right color, pattern or texture on an old plate. I started making monograms for people and enjoyed custom making a design that would reflect something about the person I was making it for. People remarked that my work really spoke to them.
Soon I branched out into cutting plates and ceramic tiles and making other designs. I was interested in using glass, but didn’t really know how to cut it until Covid opened up on-line classes. I found an amazing group at Mosaic Connections and Sue Smith taught 17 classes on how to cut and make “glass on glass” mosaics. My love for glass creations grew! I am very grateful to Sue for her incredible generosity in sharing her secrets with so many.
My path as an artist has been one of learning to create with the Master Creator. As a follower of Jesus, I find that creating things is a way to commune with God, who has the greatest imagination of all and inspires me to try new things. I am often surprised by what I create and can often see his guidance behind my art.
Let me know what I can create for you!
My husband, John, and I taught English in China for 15 years. I have created some Asian themed art such as lotus flowers and Koi fish.
We have been living in the quaint, little town of Chico, California since returning to the U.S.
